Equipping young people for change
EQUIP is a volunteer based program which connects young people with an older adult and positive role model who can offer them guidance and support.
What is mentoring?
Mentoring is a one-to-one relationship with an adult who is focused on the young person’s growth and development.
Information for Mentors
How does it work?
Wesley Mission’s Youth Services provide counselling and case management to young people who are disadvantaged or at risk. EQUIP offers extra support to enhance that process through mentoring.
The program is run from Wesley Mission’s Mt Druitt Integrated Youth Service in Emerton, but we work with young people across Western Sydney. You don’t have to live in the area to be a mentor, just be willing to travel.
Why should I become a mentor?
Becoming a mentor with EQUIP is a wonderful opportunity to invest in the life of an at risk young person. You may be one of the first people who has ever taken the time to listen to and encourage that young person, and you’ll be making a real and lasting difference in their life by being there and sharing your experience. Information for Young People
Why do I need a mentor?
Your mentor is someone you can talk to and someone who will listen to what you have to say without judging you. Mentors are able to provide extra support as you deal with the changes and developments in your life.
How do I join EQUIP?
If you are interested in having a mentor and are already involved with one of Wesley Mission’s services, chat to your youth worker about joining EQUIP. It is also important to talk about it with your parents/caregivers, as they need to give their permission for you to be involved.
